About Obsessive–Compulsive
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involves unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental rituals (compulsions) performed to reduce anxiety. OCD can be time-consuming and distressing, often interfering with work, relationships, and daily life. It is frequently underdiagnosed, but effective treatments exist including medication and specialized therapy.
Common Symptoms
- Recurring unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that cause distress
- Repetitive behaviors like checking, counting, or cleaning
- Mental rituals such as repeating phrases or reviewing events
- Spending significant time each day on obsessions or compulsions
- Avoidance of situations that trigger obsessive thoughts
- Awareness that the thoughts or behaviors are excessive but feeling unable to stop
Our Approach
We evaluate the type and severity of your OCD symptoms and discuss whether medication (typically SSRIs) may be beneficial. Medication works best alongside Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy, so we coordinate with therapists who offer that. Follow-ups track your response and allow us to adjust the plan as needed.
